2009/2010 - Dale Ewers
The sportsperson of the year recipient has shown dedication to his class to keep the class numbers up, and allowed potential competitors to trial his car before taking the step up. He has helped out several other competitors in his class by lending parts, his spare motor and even his second car throughout the season for Championships and Teams racing.
2008/2009 - Scott James
This years recipient of the Sportsperson of the Year goes to a competitor who has shown true dedication to his racing often travelling many hours to compete at yet another meeting. His car is always immaculately presented. He is someone who takes an interest in the achievements of, and offers support to, members of all classes. He often turns up to committee meetings just to see how things are going and to offer to help out. He is always respectful to officials and makes a point of thanking staff and volunteers. In fact his whole attitude towards the sport is one that many could learn from.
2007/2008 - Shane Carey
Has always travelled extensively representing Nelson with pride. A quiet achiever who often gains places at events that many of us remain unaware of. This year he has shown extreme loyalty and dedication to his class and to the club despite a number of personal pressures to the contrary.
2006/2007 - Andrew Brown
For a hardworking committee member who travels the length and breadth of the country to promote his class and keep it alive, and never complains if his class is stood down on race day.
2005/2006 - Tim Kemp
For demostrating Sportsmanship throughout the season, lending his car to someone to run in the NZ Champs when he was unable to run and helping anyone who needed it on race.
2004/2005 - Brendan Higgins
For presentation, achievement and being a role model, also demostrating Sportsmanship throughout the season.

A former crew member in his first year of racing. Willing to help anyone. Gave up his car for Teams Racing and became the crew member. Total committment with his family to the sport of speedway.

Sportsmanship. Giving parts of his car to a Tigers member so they still could complete as a team in the North Island.

Sportsmanship. General all round co-operative person in his dealings with the committee and sidecar class.

For demostrating great Sportsmanship throughout the season. Always displaying a clam attitute regardless of winning or not. Striving to do his best, to be the best on the track every race. Consistent efforts have earned him good placings in a number of titles. Respect of fellow competitors.

For his willingness to assist others in the class and his efforts in bringing visiting cars and hosting visitors. Loaning engines and cars and generally being a top competitor and great ambassador for the class.

Loaning his car to another driver whose car broke down, whilst he couldn't race himself. For creating higher profile for the club and himeself and as a dedicated team member. For all around performance.
